The NBA and David Stern discussed putting an end to floppers.
Stern and the performance committee might agree to review potential floppers and penalize them, even if it takes a day to make the call.
Stern has already made changes in the NBA, awarding whiny players with technical fouls.
Even though players still get upset, because obviously, they are filled with adrenaline and their emotions take over, they have cooled off from getting in referees' faces.
So there is definitely room for improvement.
Fans yell at referees for missing calls, but the refs are being deceived. The only reason why fans see what really occurs is because there are about a thousand cameras in an arena now.
It will be interesting to see the type of penalties that Stern and the committee apply.
What will happen if a foul is called on a flop?
If a player goes to the line, do they retain the points the day after?
If a player gets called a sixth foul on an opponents' flop, will his team be rewarded with something the next day?
Will they take time from the game to review these plays?
Will it just be a monetary penalty or league suspension?
Even though it is still unclear, Stern is taking the right steps in removing a detested part of the game.
Many say it is a part of the game. Technically speaking, drawing a foul and acting like you got fouled are different.
If done right, Jeff Van Gundy will become the rule's biggest advocate. Flopping is a topic Van Gundy has mentioned in multiple broadcasts and is adamant about.
