Bayern Munich and Kaiserslautern are playing in the German Cup on Wednesday and FCK will visit Allianz Arena at 2:30 pm ET in the DFB Pokal semifinals and the matchup is a chance for Pep Guardiola to get his team back on track, as they have won only one of their last five matches and they are heading into a matchup with Real Madrid in the Champions League.
Bayern is the defending champs of the Champions League and they are facing off against a Real Madrid team that will be down Cristiano Ronaldo and that could be the boost they need in the UCL. The team has the first leg against Real at Estadio Santiago Bernabéu and then they will have the return trip at home a week after that and a win in the semis would put them back in the Champions League finals. The team advanced against Manchester United in the previous round and they come into the match on Wednesday after a loss against Borussia Dortmund on April 12.
Bayern has been dominant in Bundesliga this season and they are coming down the stretch with a lead that no one can catch and even with their loss to Dortmund, they still lead the team by over 15 points on the table standings and the top four is finished out by Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern got past Manchester United with a win in the second leg and that game after a surprising 1-1 draw in the first match at Old Trafford.
Mario Mandzukic and Thomas Müller are leading the team in scoring, while Franck Ribéry is tops in assists and the focus has also been on Toni Kroos, who has been rumored in connection with Manchester United. Kroos will have questions on him after he turned down a contract with Bayern in January and Man U boss David Moyes was seen in the stands watching a game, but he is there through 2015 and he likely will have to deal with another bid from United.
Bayern could have another match against Dortmund if they win on Wednesday after they won in the semis and Munich has already won the league and they don't have to worry about that and now another matchup could be looming after the previous loss. Bayern Munich has said that they will not underestimate Kaiserslautern despite the team being fourth in the second division table, as they have already defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the last round and now they have this matchup with Munich. The team finished with seven games still left on the schedule in the league and that was a record and now the club is looking to advance.
