The Boston Red Sox have the Patriots Day game going at Fenway Park at 11:05 AM on Monday and the matchup from the MLB Network will be against the Baltimore Orioles for the traditional game along with the Boston Marathon and of course this year both events hold much more significance to the city after the tragic bombing last year and the game is streaming online live from the MLB.com website.
The Red Sox have won the last two over the Orioles and that included the crazy game on Sunday night that saw the team win in the ninth inning and that came on a throwing error that allowed Dustin Pedroia to score the winning run. The Red Sox have been moving up the standings in the AL East and now they are in third place tied with the O's and this game will give the other team the post for whoever wins out. The game has Wei-Yin Chen on the mound for the Orioles and stalwart Clay Buchholz for the Sox and it should be an emotional game for all involved, including David Ortiz, who helped pump up and keep everyone together last year after the tragedy.
The Boston Marathon this year has over 30,000 runners and an unprecedented amount of security and the race is going through Boston as the Red Sox get ready to play their game, which is the tradition. The Red Sox come into the game having scored 70 runs over the first three weeks of the season and they are ranked 24th in both runs scored and batting average and they are also 13th in on base percentage and 27th in slugging and they are looking to improve in those areas.
The pitching has been up and down early, but the ERA is in the top 11 and the team is ranked fourth in quality starts and they are looking to get back into the mix after being the World Series champions last year. That linked up well with the Boston Strong and bombing tragedy and now the team will honor victims and it comes after the bombing last year at the marathon that killed three people and injured over 200.
The Orioles come into the game after the loss and they have up eight hits in that game and had three errors as well and they rank 23rd in the league in scoring with one more run than the Red Sox have. The team is fifth in batting average and 16th in on base and 15th in slugging percentage and their pitching has not been up to par so far, ranking 18th in ERA. The team is ranked near the bottom in quality starts and they are 24th in WHIP and 29th in BAA and they are hoping to turn it around on Monday against the Red Sox.
