The St. Louis Cardinals and NY Mets are playing live on the MLB schedule on Monday night and the game from Citi Field starts up at 7:10 pm ET and the game has two teams in the NL looking to get on a roll and the Cards will have Tyler Lyons on the mound, while Jenrry Mejia will be up for New York in the game and it will be streaming online from the MLB.com website.
Mejia comes into the game pitching well and he is 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA and he is coming in after getting a win when he matched up with the Diamondbacks, while the Cards will also turn to a young starter for the game. Mejia has been off to a good start to the season and he previously was 2-6 in 11 starts in his career and Lyons comes in for his first start of the season to replace Joe Kelly in the rotation with an injury. Lyons came back from Triple A and he was 2-4 with a 4.75 ERA in 12 games last season and this year he started off 2-0 with a 3.32 ERA in the minors.
Curtis Granderson is looking to get hot and while the Mets were excited to add him in the offseason, he has not quite lived up to expectations yet and is in the midst of an 0-16 streak even though he helped the get the game winning run for the Mets in the last game. The Cardinals come into the matchup after losing to the Washington Nationals and they are now second in the NL Central behind the MLB leading Brewers and that should be a nice race in the division for the rest of the season, as that division looks strong at the top and to the bottom apart from the Cubbies of course.
The Cardinals have started off the season slow offensively and they are 11-8 this season and they are ranked 20th in runs and 16th in batting average, while the team is also 18th in on base percentage and 23rd in slugging and now they have the chance to get things going against the Mets. The pitching has been considerably better and they are seventh in ERA and sixth in quality starts and the team is also fifth in WHIP and ninth in batting average against early on and they will try and build on that with Kelly out. The next game will have Dillon Gee and Adam Wainwright facing off and that could be a nice pitching matchup for both sides.
The Mets have not been as bad as expected and they are ranked 15th in runs scored and they are coming off of a win against the Atlanta Braves and they are third in their division. The game starts up from Citi just after 7 pm ET and the weather is nice in NYC on Monday.
