The New York Giants and every other NFL team got their 2014 season schedule set on Wednesday and the team has a favorable one based on winning percentage from last season and things will get started off on Monday, September 8 for the first Monday Night Football game of the season and they also will have to visit the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks at CenturyLink Field in Week 10.
Eli Manning and the Giants are trying to rebound from a 7-9 season in 2013 and they started off the year 0-6 and that was a tough hole to climb out of and now they have the benefit of being in the bottom part of the league in opponents win percentage in 2014. The team has a chance to start off much better than last season, as they have some winnable games over the first six weeks, but that doesn't mean it will be easy. The Giants have over 25 new players to bring into the team and that can be an issue with chemistry, while the first three of their divisional games are on the road and come over the first seven weeks of the season.
After opening on the road against Detroit, the Giants come home to MetLife Stadium for two straight games and they have their home opener at 1 pm ET on FOX and that will be against the Arizona Cardinals. The Giants play the NFC West this season and while the Cardinals nearly made the playoffs in 2013 in their very tough division, this is still a winnable game and the Giants are fortunate that it's a west coast team with an early afternoon kickoff, something that is statistically favorable to the home team. Week 3 has the Houston Texans facing off against the Giants and while they likely will be improved, the team did go 2-14 last season and that is another game the Giants could win.
The Giants have four games in September and their first divisional matchup will be on the road against the Washington Redskins and with Robert Griffin III coming back from his injury, the team should be much better than 3-13 and of course Giants fans know what DeSean Jackson brings. The team plays the Atlanta Falcons after the Redskins game and three of the next four are divisional games, including road matchups with the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys. The Redskins game is a Thursday night matchup and the Eagles game is on NBC for Sunday Night Football.
The team has their bye in Week 8 and coming out of that is a very rough stretch, as the Giants will host the Indianapolis Colts on Monday Night Football in Week 9 before a west coast trip to the Super Bowl champions in Seattle and then they have to face off against another tough NFC West team as Jim Harbaugh and the San Francisco 49ers come to town. The team hosts the Dallas Cowboys the week after that and depending on what their record is, they have a decent stretch to end the season, playing the Jaguars, Titans, Redskins at home, Rams on the road and then the Philadelphia Eagles at home in Week 17.
