There has been conflicting reports regarding the future of Ndamukong Suh in Detroit. With Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack being a draft target for the team and contract extension negotiations stalling, of course reports of unhappiness from both parties are surfacing. That does not mean the Lions are aiming to trade Suh before the NFL Draft, but it also does not mean they are not attempting to make such a move. It is all mere speculation at this point with the likely outcome being that Suh goes nowhere and deal gets done, but hey, this is the NFL so lets speculate.
Bleacher Report's Mike Freeman is reporting the Lions are shopping Suh in a trade prior to the NFL Draft with the hopes of moving up to a better pick than No. 10. The two sides have been trying to nail down a contract extension and talks are not going in a positive direction. As the team opened up voluntary offseason workouts, Suh opted not to show which was not met with positivity from his head coach.
Freeman reports that right now the Lions are sending out feelers and gauging interest to see who would pick up the defensive star. Suh is a gigantic $22 million cap hit next year. That is huge especially for teams who have already signed several free agents and have just enough money for the rookies. No one wants Suh's contract.
CBSSports.com's Jason La Confora disputes Freeman's report of a trade. He believes the Lions are simply staying focused on getting Suh to a long-term contract and are not wasting time calling other teams about their interest level for draft picks. According to the NFL Insider, Suh's absence to voluntary workouts has nothing to do with his contract status and he is simply continuing with the offseason workout he has done for the past three years.
Read between the lines and the Lions would move Suh if the right deal came along, but they are not pushing the issue. So who could be interested in a deal? The Houston Texans could be an option. The team could draft Jadeveon Clowney and trade with the Lions. The Atlanta Falcons could be interested if they are not able to draft Clowney. The Oakland Raiders could also be a destination, again if the team does not get Clowney.
Suh would likely be a one-year rental to any team interested. Getting him signed to an extension is proving harder than any team wants to be bothered with. Will a team make move? Will the Detroit Lions seriously dangle Suh as trade bait? No.
