The Miami Dolphins are coming into the draft with a number of options and if the team decides to trade Mike Wallace, players like Marqise Lee, Brandin Cooks and Odell Beckham will be prime targets and some other names to keep an eye on for GM Dennis Hickey are Tre Mason, Carlos Hyde, Zack Martin and Jeremy Hill.
The Dolphins come into the draft with straight selections through the first seven rounds and that could lead the team to trade Wallace to get a pick or two back, as he had a so-so season last year after signing a mega contract. Wallace was signed by Jeff Ireland, so Hickey may not feel as bad about dealing him and while the team has denied that they were shopping Wallace, the Miami Herald writes that the team was looking to trade him and that the interest in wide receivers in the draft coming up is very telling.
The team has three picks among the first 81 and many see the Dolphins going for offense, as they struggled hard at the end of the season last year and scored only seven points over their final two games. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill had a solid season, but he needs more weapons as he develops and that is why Hickey could go after players like Lee or Cooks in the draft. Lee had a so-so season compared to his year in 2012 when he was a Heisman finalist, but he did very well considering the QB issues and he ended up with 57 receptions for 791 yards and four touchdowns.
Lee could be an option in the first round, while Cooks is also very tempting, as he is a very fast receiver with strong hands and he had over 120 catches last season for Oregon State, amassing 1730 yards and 16 touchdowns and he could be a legit deep threat for the team. The running back position was a weak spot last season with Daniel Thomas and Lamar Miller in the starting roles and now Knowshon Moreno comes in and Hickey could be looking for more, as the position is very deep in the draft this year.
Names like Carlos Hyde, Tre Mason, Andre Williams and Jeremy Hill could be in the mix, while the Herald writes that WR could be the hot position. The team has Wallace and Rishard Matthews along with Brian Hartline and adding another name to that mix could be huge for Tannehill. Beckham had a very good season with over 1,000 yards for LSU and he could be in the mix along with Hill, who rushed for over 1,400 yards last season.
Hyde is an interesting option because he can counter Moreno, who is great out of the backfield, while he is great between the tackles. Last season Hyde led Ohio State with over 1,500 yards rushing and 15 scores and he could be the first back off the board. Mason is very fast and he had over 1,800 yards and 23 touchdowns for Auburn last season and he could also be an electric return man for the team.
