Martin Skrtel's agent has revealed there will be talks on a new contract when he meets with Liverpool and discusses the clubs future, after Brendan Rodgers took over as the new manager.
The 27-year-old has two years remaining on his contract, but Liverpool will be concerned about the defender's future after widespread reports surfaced he was being targeted by some of Europe's biggest clubs.
Manchester City are understood to be the keenest admirers, and Roberto Mancini is believed to be considering a summer swoop for the Slovakian international by putting in a £20 million ($31 million) bid.
Russian big-spenders Anzhi Makhachkala have also been linked with a move, however, Skrtel's agent Karol Cstonto said he would consider a move only after talking with the Liverpool hierarchy and their plans for the future.
"Some changes have been made at the club and he wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin's new contract.
"Liverpool is a big club and just because they haven't made the Champions League this year doesn't mean they would not do it next year.
"There are expectations on both sides, though."
Skrtel was the standout player for Liverpool last season; the Slovakian deservedly won the player of the season award, in a disappointing campaign where the Reds finished behind their arch-rivals Everton, in eighth. That prompted American Owners FSG to look for a new manager, ending the reign of the beloved Kenny Dalglish.
Former Swansea manager Rodgers was appointed and has been given the task of delivering success to one of the English game's most successful teams.
Skrtel's centre-half partner Daniel Agger recently pledged his future to Liverpool, saying he was looking forward to working under Rodgers. "It's no secret that I'm happy to be in Liverpool, he told sporten.dk. "Otherwise, I would not have been there for six years.
"I have not (discussed a new contract), but if they come with an offer I will surely sit down and talk with them.
"It's not something that is urgent, for I have a contract until 2014, but if they ask I will listen.
"I am looking forward to meeting the new coach. I've seen what he has done at Swansea, and it has been impressive."
