Timothy Bradley Jr. is not out of the woods just yet. Earlier this week, the new WBO Welterweight Champion claimed that Manny Pacquiao would be disinterested in a rematch. The champ may have spoken too soon.
"My supporters shouldn't worry. We're going to get that title," said Pacquiao, who recently donated his earnings from his recent title loss to help aid victims of the recent floods in the Philippines.
The WBO recently conducted a five-judge panel that reviewed the fight and ultimately "awarded" the victory to Pacquiao by unanimous decision.
This panel in no way obligates Bradley to resign the belt to the former champion, but the WBO can order a rematch if the fight promoter does not initiate one.
Both Pacquiao and Bradley are promoted by Top Rank.
Bradley has since recanted the comments that he issued during his hometown celebration and told The Dessert Sun in Palm Springs, California that he welcomes a rematch.
"I think the rematch should happen," said the current champion. "The fight was very close and it could've gone either way, regardless of what happened. I'm all for it. November 10th - let's do it. . . . all this would be taken away if we just sat down and did the rematch and settled it once and for all."
Before the now notorious first bout occurred, a rematch had already been scheduled for the November 10th date that Bradley is referring to. That date is not set in stone, however, and may be moved to accommodate both fighters.
