The PGA Tour schedule for 2014 has the US Open and the British Open Championship as the next majors and if Tiger Woods is healthy he likely will play at both of them, but so far his timetable from back surgery will keep him out of those tournaments and this week he will be missing defending his title at the Players Championship, which will be at TPC Sawgrass.
The schedule has that tournament next after the Wells Fargo Championship was this past weekend and it will be the HP Byron Nelson Championship the week after next before the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial and then in a few weeks will be the US Open Golf Championship in June and that starts up from June 12 and goes to June 15. Woods is very unlikely to be in that tournament and he is more likely to be back for the British Open.
The Open Championship is in July and that will be at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Merseyside, England this year, while the PGA Championship comes from Valhalla Golf Club in Louisville and that will be in August. The last major is the best bet for Woods, who dealt with back surgery after struggling very hard this year on tour and now he could be looking to come back towards the end of the season.
Woods wrote about the injury and his return on his website and he said that while things have been going slowly, they are on schedule and that he is moving towards getting back on the course in 2014. Woods was injured early in the year and struggled in the four tournaments he played in and he was forced to miss the Arnold Palmer with the injury and that came after he had to withdraw at the Honda Classic and also after his struggles at WGC-Cadillac Championship and then he missed the Masters as well, which was won by Bubba Watson.
Woods wrote that he had the same surgery as Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and that he has spoken to the star to get advice on recovery and other issues that could come up. Woods said that he is sticking to the schedule that doctors give him and that when he is ready to return, he surely will be back on the golf course and in the swing of things. With Woods out of the lineup this weekend, JB Holmes won at Quail Hollow and that was the third PGA win for him. The Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial comes after TPC and then after that are the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance and FedEx St. Jude Classic tournaments and they will be on the schedule before the US Open, which was won by Justin Rose last year.
