Kevin Durant won the MVP award for the 2013-14 season on Tuesday and his speech on video was an emotional tribute to his mother and his career and now the Oklahoma City star has a most valuable player award to add to his mantle after winning the scoring title and setting numerous records in the NBA this season.

Durant won the award in a landslide and LeBron James came in second ahead of Blake Griffin and the top five finished out with Joakim Noah and James Harden. Durant came in second place behind James last year and now he is the MVP winner and it comes after the Thunder won 59 games this season and after Durant had to deal with the absence of Russell Westbrook for some time during the season.

Durant averaged 32 points per game and he thanked his teammates for helping him get to where he is now the first player to win the award and the scoring title in the same season since Allen Iverson. Durant averaged 7.4 rebounds and 5.5 assists this season and the Thunder are one of the favorites for the NBA title this season and Durant winning the MVP gives the team even more motivation. Durant thanked his teammates personally including Westbrook and Kendrick Perkins and he said that Nick Collison was one player that accepted him from Day one in Seattle and that was important for him as an 18 year old.

Durant is the first player from the franchise to win the MVP award and he was emotional and very thankful as he accepted the award and his speech was gracious and respectful. Durant understands the weight of winning the award and with LeBron James taking the last few, it was time for a change and Durant, while he greatly deserved the award, was very humble about it and he was very thankful to his mother and his teammates for helping him get to where he is now.
