English Premier League Table Standings: Manchester City First In EPL Title Championship As Liverpool Chases Barclays Into Survival Sunday

May 08, 2014 01:01 PM EDT

Manchester City leads the English Premier League table standings over Liverpool and the EPL title and Barclays Championship are up for grabs on Survival Sunday and Man City has the inside track over the Reds and Chelsea after getting a win this week and over the weekend they could be the ones with the EPL championship after Liverpool looked like they would run away with it earlier on the season schedule.

Man City comes into the final day of the season in first place in the EPL standings and that came after Liverpool blew a chance to take advantage with a 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace. The Reds needed to win that match and outscore the team by a number of goals to close the differential with Man City, but after getting a 3-0 lead, they allowed three goals and that negated both of those things and now the team is two points back with one match to play.

Liverpool is still alive for the title, but their chances are slim with the way Man City is playing and even if Man City has a draw and Liverpool wins, they would take the title on differential. The Reds had the chance to win by getting seven points over their final three games, but they lost 2-0 at home at Anfield to Chelsea and that knocked them down and with Man City coming into the final week with a match in hand, getting the title proved difficult and now they are in a tough position heading into Sunday.

Liverpool has scored 99 goals this season, but Man City now has 100 and they have allowed just 37, while the Reds have allowed 49 and that is the stark difference and could be what vaults the team into the title again. Man City comes into the matches on Sunday in first place and they are two up on Liverpool and four up on Chelsea, who has 79 points and they are ahead of Arsenal at third on the table.

The Gunners are in fourth and they have locked in Champions League qualifying and they are above Everton and Tottenham, while Man United and Southampton are next in the standings. Liverpool comes in with Newcastle United as their final match of the season and that will be at Anfield after the team pulled the draw with Crystal and that came after the Chelsea loss, which snapped an 11-game winning streak for the Reds and now they must do their best to win to stay alive in the title chase this season.

All the matches kick off at 10 am ET on Sunday and Man City is playing against West Ham United and that will be at Etihad Stadium as they try to close things out and it comes after their crucial win against Aston Villa earlier in the week. Edin Dzeko and Yaya Touré scored three of four goals in the game and now they are sitting pretty with one game left on the schedule.
