Washington Redskins Rumors: Kirk Cousins Trade To Houston Texans Option After Browns As RG3 Has Colt McCoy At Backup?

The Washington Redskins could look to trade Kirk Cousins to the Houston Texans after denying an offer with the Cleveland Browns and this comes after the Texans selected Tom Savage in the draft and the Redskins could be fine without their backup, as they now have Colt McCoy as an option behind RG3.

According to ESPN.com, the Redskins had an offer from the Browns for Cousins but turned it down and if they get a better one from the Texans or someone else they could go through with the deal. Cousins has starting experience and he has shown he can win game in the NFL after stepping in for Robert Griffin multiple times over the past two seasons. The Redskins went just 3-13 and they could use some extra draft picks heading into next season and with McCoy there, it would take any idea of Cousins starting over RG3 again in Washington. The Texans went 2-14 last season and while they drafted Savage, they could use another solid QB and Cousins could be a shorty term option for the team and he fits the mold for new head coach Bill O'Brien and he has shown while starting four games and playing in eight that he can handle the NFL.

The NFL draft has come and gone and with that in mind, some teams may start looking towards the bottom of the free agent market for need positions to fill out and at running back, Michael Bush and Ronnie Brown remain the best options and teams like the NY Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Redskins, Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots and Cincinnati Bengals could be fits.

According to Pro Football Talk, Bush and Brown are the highest rated players left on the market and this comes after Chris Johnson signed a two year deal with the Jets. Johnson was released by the Tennessee Titans before last week and he has been a consistent rusher in his career, going for over 1,000 yards in each of the last six seasons, although last year he had a career low 3.9 yards per carry. The free agent market took a little while to develop for running backs, but names like Ben Tate, Darren McFadden, Rashad Jennings, Maurice Jones-Drew and Toby Gerhart all signed with teams and now the draft is the next major chance for teams to add at the position.

The Giants signed Rashad Jennings after being one of the worst rushing teams in the league last season and they allowed Ronnie Brown to leave, which means he will now be the feature back ahead of Peyton Hillis and David Wilson, who is coming back after a serious neck injury. The Giants reshaped their offensive line in the offseason and they could target a running back in one of the later rounds in the draft to pair with Jennings, who had a very solid season with the Raiders. Jennings has less wear and tear on him than other backs since he wasn't a feature back early in his career and he led the Raiders with over 700 rushing yards last season.
