The Detroit Tigers win streak is still alive with the 1-0 win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night with the one run victory. The team is preparing to battle Boston for most of the season so getting as many wins against them now. Now the team will put their faith in Rick Porcello to get the Saturday start, but the pitcher has been struggling and could put the streak in jeopardy.
Porcello has been playing well this season, but not against the Boston Red Sox. The Tigers are looking for their 10th straight home win as Porcello is aiming for his sixth victory this season. Porcello has a 3.22 ERA and playing a significant role in the surging Tigers. The team has the best record in the league and the American League's lowest ERA at 2.72. Having Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer certainly have helped the effort as well.
Porcello might be dominating right now during the season, but against the Red Sox he has been a different player. The right-hander is 1-2 with a 11.85 ERA against the Red Sox in his last three starts. He has matched a career high with the nine runs he gave up against the team last season, something he hopes to not repeat.
Boston will send John Lackey to the mound to get the win against Detroit. He is 5-2 with a 3.57 ERA and hoping to cool off Detroit who has won four straight and 15 of 19 overall. Lackey has been on a hot streak his past four starts with a 2.17 ERA, but like Porcello has struggled against this opponent. Lackey is 0-3 against the Tigers with a 4.94 ERA in his last four starts. However, he did win his last start against the team in the ALCS.
Both the Tigers and Red Sox are both generating plenty of hits so this series not be short on offense. Ian Kinsler is batting .339 in his last 15 games. Mike Napoli is hitting above .300. The ALCS rematch is expected to be just as exciting as the playoff series was.
