Manchester United completed the signing of exciting Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa from Borussia Dortmund on a four-year deal.

Kagawa, who arrived in Manchester for a medical on Friday, sealed his move worth an initial £12 million ($19 million), rising to £17 million ($26.5 million) based on appearances and success.

The 23-year-old is United's second signing of the summer after the Red Devils sealed the deal for teenager Nick Powell from Crewe Alexandria earlier this month.

United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said he was excited to bring Kagawa to United. "Shinji is an exciting young midfielder with great skill, vision and a good eye for goal," Ferguson told the club's official website.

"I am delighted he has chosen to come to United.

"I believe he will make an impact upon the team very quickly as he is suited to United's style of play.

"We are all looking forward to working with him."

United fans will be happy to see their team complete the deal for one of Europe's most exciting players with many seeing Kagawa as not just a shirt-seller, but somebody who can succeed in the highly-competitive English Premier League.

Manchester United lost out on the signing of another young prospect Eden Hazard, with the Belgian choosing to join Chelsea instead, but will be happy to see Kagawa, who was also interesting the likes of Arsenal, come to Manchester.

Kagawa said he can't wait to get started. "This is a challenge I am really looking forward to," the Japanese playmaker said.

"The Premier League is the best league in the world and Manchester United is such a massive club.

"This is a really exciting time for me and I can't wait to meet the team and start playing."
