Houston Texans Rumors: Bill O'Brien Favors Tom Savage Over Ryan Mallett, Kirk Cousins Trades, Ryan Fitzpatrick Starter as TJ Yates, Case Keenum Risk Release

It is unclear if the Houston Texans have a quarterback issue or not. The team has veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick and two young players in Case Keenum and TJ Yates who Bill O'Brien inherited from the former coaching regime. They also drafted Tom Savage to potentially be the future of the franchise, but there is no telling how he will develop. With Fitzpatrick the only starting option, does the team make a trade?

According to O'Brien, Savage handled himself well in rookie minicamp over the weekend. While most eyes were on Jadeveon Clowney, the quarterback quietly went about his business and O'Brien was impressed with what he saw from the fourth-round pick.

"We throw so many things at the quarterback when he comes in here, whether it's knowledge of defense - even in the first night, we spend an hour and a half with the guy in individual meetings, and then expect him to go out there and execute at a high level," O'Brien said, via the Houston Chronicle. "It's hard to do. But that's our expectation level here for that position. You have to figure out on your own how you get an edge on what we do offensively and what the defense is doing."

O'Brien was coy on whether or not Savage would see the field this season. He remains very confident in what Fitzpatrick brings to the table and has no plans to rush to rookie along in order to get someone on the field. O'Brien stressed that right now, the team does have a bigger-picture plan in motion and will continue to monitor how Savage responds to it.

"If we see that he's struggling with some things, then we'll back it down for him," O'Brien said. "But so far it looks like he's been paying attention. He's done what we've asked him to do. He had his share of mistakes today, just like every guy did. But I thought it was a decent start for him."

The Texans quarterback regime is not overly impressive. Andre Johnson has made that much known. However, Houston has no plans on acquiring anyone else for the time being. While the team was in negotiations for both Ryan Mallett and Kirk Cousins, a move was not made. They also passed up on several quarterbacks in order to draft Savage. Will the four players be enough or will the team eventually be forced to make a trade for a backup in hopes they can step in right away?
