The Cleveland Browns are dealing with a tough situation with Josh Gordon and a trade for Andre Johnson could be an option for the team with the Houston Texans and while that is very unlikely, the team may consider the deal and as this goes on, Johnny Manziel is in offseason workouts and he is working to try start over Brian Hoyer in 2014.
The Browns have some excitement coming into the season because of Manziel and even if he doesn't start, fans are excited about the future and what he can bring to the team. According to ESPN.com, Manziel looked shaky in his first team workouts and Brian Hoyer ran with the top squad and Manziel was behind Tyler Thigpen and now he has the chance to work his way up. Hoyer comes into things looking to be the starter and he realizes Manziel comes in with a ton of hype and while he was in a brace, he said he felt fine and was confident he could win the job.
The Browns will be without Gordon most likely, although the process is still playing out and that could be a huge hit for Manziel and Hoyer. Gordon reportedly will be at OTA workouts and he is still waiting on official word if he will be suspended for the full season and the league is still working out how to deal with that situation. Gordon had a career year in 2013 and was the main reason the Browns offense did anything, as he led the league with over 1,600 yards and he also had 87 catches and nine touchdowns while playing with Hoyer and Brandon Weeden.
Losing Gordon would be a huge hit for the Browns, but they signed Miles Austin and Earl Bennett to at least help and they join Andrew Hawkins from the offseason. Nate Burleson is also in and while he is coming back from an injury, he should be all ready for the season to start. Austin has dealt with injuries over the past couple years, but he is a Pro Bowl level receiver and if he can remain on the field he will give the team a nice boost. Last season Gordon had back to back 200 yard games and while Austin and Bennett and not that explosive, they are solid veteran receivers.
The team cut Greg Little after he had 41 catches for 465 yards and two touchdowns and now Austin comes in after having just 24 receptions for 244 yards, but that comes after he was nearly a 1,000 yard receiver two years ago and he made the Pro Bowl in 2009 and 2010. Bennett is a solid receiver as well and he comes in after making over 160 catches with the Bears over six seasons and he can be a nice slot presence for Manziel or Hoyer.
The Browns have a new head coach with Mike Pettine and they come into the season after going just 4-12 last year. The team has some hope with Manziel coming in and even if he doesn't start this year, the future is bright with more first round picks and extra selections in the 2015 draft.
