Aaron Hernandez will be back in court on Wednesday for an arraignment and girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins is expected to attend and things are on schedule for about 2 pm in the courtroom and his fiancé and mother Terri are likely to be in attendance and this comes as the Patriots still have dead money left over from the contract that Hernandez signed before being arrested on murder charges.
Hernandez was indicted on separate double murder charges last week on top of the first degree murder charge he is facing in the death of Odin Lloyd and now he is set to be arraigned on those double murder charges on Wednesday. According to the Sporting News, the Suffolk County DA released the news about the arraignment, scheduling Hernandez' next court appearance on Wednesday, May 28 and as that goes on, investigators are looking into evidence and information related to tattoos that Hernandez may have received after committing the murders.
According to a release from the office, the prosecutors are looking into whether Hernandez had any tattoos done in between February 2012 and June 2013 that could be connected to the double murder. The report says that Hernandez was in Florida, Rhode Island and Massachusetts during that time and that investigators are looking to speak with any artists that may have worked on the former Patriots star and his right arm. The double murder charges come after months of investigating and some have linked this murder with the original Lloyd murder, stating that Hernandez may have had motive to kill Lloyd because of his knowledge of the double murders.
Hernandez is not facing separate double murder charges in another case and this stems from an incident before the Lloyd killing from back in 2012. Investigators linked Hernandez to a drive by shooting of two men, Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, which had been unsolved since before last summer. The Hernandez connection came up after he was arrested for the Lloyd killing and he was linked back to the murder through nightclub video footage and other evidence. The car used in the drive by was found in Hernandez's uncle's home and the murder weapon was also located in that case.
Hernandez is now in an even tougher situation with the double murder charges and he now has three separate counts of first degree murder to defend. The Patriots now have some help on their side at getting back some money from Hernandez, as this case, if proven to be true, would show that Hernandez signed his extension after committing murder. That could help the Patriots show he signed in bad faith and this comes as they are ranked 15th in the league in dead money coming into the season and some of that comes from Hernandez.
The team has over $10 million and over $7 million of that is from Hernandez after the team released him from his $40 million extension after he was arrested last summer. According to ESPN.com, he signed for a $12.5 million signing bonus and was paid over $9 million of it and now the $3.25 million that was set to paid in March has come into dispute as well.
