The Washington Redskins are coming into the offseason with a number of questions on offense and the team could look at a trade with Kirk Cousins after denying the Cleveland Browns earlier in the offseason, as Colt McCoy could now serve as the backup for RG3 and Jay Gruden may also look at LaMichael James or Mark Ingram as trade options to help support Alfred Morris.
The Redskins reportedly denied the Browns a trade for Cousins during the draft and that would have netted the team a fourth round draft pick. The Redskins signed Colt McCoy in the offseason and he could be a capable backup for Robert Griffin III, but Jay Gruden may want more insurance than that. Cousins has shown he can be a solid pro in the NFL and he has won games before and that will make him a target for a team like the Houston Texans if they feel that Tom Savage or Ryan Fitzpatrick are not the answer this year.
The Redskins love what they have in Alfred Morris and he once again was excellent last season and he has been a workhorse over the past two seasons. The Redskins could go after someone like Ingram after the Saints didn't pick up the fifth year option on his contract and he could be a solid backup alongside Roy Helu to help take some of the load off of Morris. The trade likely will not go down, but the Redskins could use some more support in the rushing game for Griffin even after ranking fifth in the NFL in rushing yards per game.
Griffin had a rough 2013 campaign and now he is coming back healthy and looking to get the Redskins back to the playoffs after going just 3-13 on the season. Griffin needs to find a way to stay healthy and the team comes back after not winning a single game in the division and the team was 16th in passing yards per game last season and 20th in passing yards allowed and Gruden hopes to get both better this year. The Redskins have a number of things to look at heading into training camp and Griffin coming back healthy will be huge for the team and the franchise overall.
The Redskins started a PR campaign on Twitter to get their opinion out about the team name that many call racist and that campaign totally backfired, as the team was hit with post after post about how the name is not prideful and it racist. The team directed people to write why they have Redskins pride and they directed it at Senator Harry Reid after he signed a letter about the team name and he has been very vocal about the potential name change. This was just the latest in a long line of PR snafus by the Redskins and they will continue doing it as they cling to a racist name that Dan Snyder will not change because he is too greedy and as long as sponsors and the NFL/team bottom line doesn't change, neither will the name.
