The MLB trade deadline is not for months, but already names like Jeff Samardzija, Matt Kemp, Alex Rios, Andre Ethier, Max Scherzer, Rickie Weeks, Alexei Ramirez, Asdrubal Cabrera and Ichiro Suzuki have come up in trade rumors and teams like the Boston Red Sox, LA Dodgers, New York Yankees, Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays could be active this summer on the trade market.
Samardzija is one of the top names on the trade market and he is coming into the trade deadline later in the summer as a prime target since he is on the Cubs. This season Samardzija has been lights out and at one point he had a sub 2.00 ERA but only a 1-4 record because the team could not score for him. According to Hardball Talk, Samardzija is a prime target for the Baltimore Orioles and some other teams that could be interested includes the Toronto Blue Jays and NY Yankees.
Samardzija has great stuff and he is under 30 and that makes him an option for any team looking for pitching. The Orioles have some young talent in the pipeline, but they are struggling in the rotation even after signing Ubaldo Jimenez this offseason. The AL East is wide open this season and the team was leading the division through 50 games and now they could make a move to try and make the playoffs again after missing out last season. The team is dealing with injuries here and there from Chris Davis, Matt Wieters, and Manny Machado as well as Tommy Hunter and a trade here could be a huge boost.
Matt Kemp, Alex Rios, Andre Ethier and Ichiro Suzuki could be in the mix for teams that need outfielders and right now the Boston Red Sox are a team in need of some depth. The team is dealing with injuries in the outfield along with some mediocre play and adding someone like Kemp or Rios could be big. According to SI.com, the Red Sox are interested in Kemp and the Dodgers could be a willing partner once again, as Kemp has been in and out of the lineup this season and with the team filled with Carl Crawford and Yasiel Puig as well as Ethier, one of those two are likely moving.
Rickie Weeks has been mentioned in some trade talks, while a team could go crazy and try and pry Scherzer from the Tigers, but that isn't happening. Alexei Ramirez, Asdrubal Cabrera and other names at shortstop could be options for teams like the Detroit Tigers or NY Mets and a number of other teams have needs heading into the summer. The Yankees could be active on the pitching market, while the Red Sox are gunning for an OF.
