The New York Mets have finally started to get their bats moving after failing to give any of their starting pitchers run support in recent games. Jacob deGrom got his first career victory thanks to a view runs of support and hopes the Mets offense can keep things up against the Philadelphia Phillies.
deGrom has been a bright spot in the Mets rotation. In his first three starts he posted a 1.83 ERA despite all of them ending in losses. He was backed by four runs of support while still keeping his ERA under 2.00. The bats have not done him any favors while the bullpen is also struggling to help string a win together. deGrom tossed six scoreless innings before the bullpen surrendered five runs in the loss. When he is pitching, he puts good work in at the plate to do his part for team. He is 4 for 5 while getting a hit in each of his three starts.
Kyle Kendrick will get the start for the Phillies. He is 1-5 with a 4.04 ERA. He is struggling in a similar fashion to deGrom. Kendrick finally got a win after 17 starts when he gave up six hits over six innings. He was 0-10 with a 5.11 ERA while getting just 2.51 runs of support. He faced the Mets back in May and gave up four runs in over five innings while winning his last two home starts against the team.
The Phillies are getting their offense together. Reid Brignac is providing game heroics while Domonic Brown connected on a three-run homeer after being 3 for 30 in his past 10 games.
