The Premier League transfer rumors are starting to heat up for teams like Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool heading into the summer and the Blues are already dealing with a loss, as Frank Lampard has joined Atletico Madrid star David Villa as the latest players to head to the MLS in the United States, as both are poised to join New York City FC, which is owned by Manchester City in the EPL.
According to Fox Sports and Sky Sports, the MLS franchise is set to sign both Villa and Lampard to deals, with Lampard coming out of his deal with Chelsea this year after the team finished third in the Premier League behind Manchester City and Liverpool. The 36-year-old is preparing for the World Cup with England and while no deal has been made public, sources say that both players are moving to the US league and it comes as Chelsea has yet to say whether they will offer Lampard a new contract.
The report also says that Villa is close to a deal with the team and he is coming off of a strong season with Atletico Madrid, who won the La Liga title this year in the Spanish Primera Division. The franchise has yet to play a game in the MLS and they are one of the new expansion franchises and they will start playing in 2015 and reports say that the two could be loaned out on short term contracts to deal with the delay in play for next season.
Lampard said in the press earlier in the week that he was contemplating a return after playing with Chelsea last season and he said he could play for two or three more years. Villa has said that he is on his way out of Atletico and he said that he has an "irresistible project" coming up and that likely is New York.
Lampard is playing with England and is on his way to Miami before heading to Brazil and England had a tough schedule with Italy as the first game and then the team plays Uruguay and Costa Rica in their group. England is looking to improve after their last performance in 2010 and players like Wayne Rooney and Lampard are looking to perform well in the tournament.
