Uruguay and Slovenia are playing live on the World Cup friendly schedule on Wednesday night and the matchup comes streaming love from Montevideo at Estadio Centenario at 7:30 pm ET and 12:30 am local time as Luis Suarez and the Uruguayan side try and keep things going as they prepare for the Brazil tournament starting in just over a week.
Uruguay comes in with high expectations and they are trying to make a good run at the tournament being held on their home continent and they come into the match after a win against Northern Ireland and that was a 1-0 victory and now they are trying to win ahead of heading to Brazil for the Cup. Uruguay can play much better than they did in that friendly and they come in against Slovenia, a team that is not in the World Cup and this gives the chance for Suarez and company to work some things out ahead of the tournament.
Slovenia last played against World Cup team Algeria back in Match and they lost that match and now Uruguay looks to keep things going. The team originally made it into the World Cup in a playoff after the team finished fifth in their group with Ecuador, Chile, Colombia and Argentina. Argentina comes into the event as one of the favorites along with Spain, Brazil and Germany and Uruguay could be one of the dark horse teams, as they have one of the best players in the world in Luis Suarez, who is coming into the tournament after the best run of his career and that could be all the difference this time around.
Uruguay has a tough group stage coming up with England, Costa Rica and Italy and they need players like Suarez and Diego Forlán along with Edinson Cavani to step up. Forlán is a legend of the team and he can set a national mark with scores in this tournament and the team will be looking for a good showing. The team comes in after winning over N Ireland and pulling a draw with Austria in the friendly before that and those came after wins against Jordan to advance into the World Cup.
Suarez did not play in the matchup with Ireland and he will be out of this game as well as he recovers from a knee issue and he should be able to get ready for the Brazil games. Suarez could be out for the first matchup for the team and he is hoping to return, but there is a chance that he will miss the World Cup in total. Suarez was one of the best players in World Cup qualifying, scoring in double digits and beating out Messi and now the team may have to play without him. Cavani needs to be at his best and he comes in after scoring 16 goals in 30 games for PSG this past season. Uruguay opens with Costa Rica and then plays against England in their second matchup and that will be in Sao Paulo before the team plays in Natal against Italy.
