Oakland Raiders Rumors: Jermichael Finley Signed Over Dustin Keller if Denarius Moore, Andre Holmes Traded? Matt Schaub Seeks TE as Steelers, Patriots Options

The Oakland Raiders still have some cap space they can opt to use before the season starts. Normally, most teams wait until injuries hit in camp before spending on a new player, but with several strong receiving options on the market, the Raiders might decide to make a move now instead of waiting. Jermichael Finley is getting plenty of attention from teams after receiving clearance from his personal doctor and the Raiders intend to make a play for him.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are one of the many teams targeting Finley, but are in the best spot to offer him a contract. Oakland has about $10 million left to spend on free agency which means they could give Finley more than just the standard minimum most players receive after coming off a severe injury.

Oakland's contract offer will depend on just how healthy his neck and spine are. The tight end might have been cleared by his doctor, but no team will sign him if their team doctors do not clear him as well. Finley underwent spinal fusion after suffering a severe neck injury against the Cleveland Browns last season. Many thought his career was over, but Finley rehabbed his way back into the league and is hoping to get a contract before training camp begins.

The Oakland Raiders could use Finley. If Matt Schaub is going to be successful this season, he needs top receiving options. The Raiders have tried to improve their group adding James Jones and Greg Little into the mix. Pair them with improvement from younger players like Mychal Rivera and Juron Criner and the Raiders will have an improved offense. However, adding Finley gives them a more dynamic layer. The tight end can lineup as a receiver or cover the middle of the field, giving the quarterback several options, something the Raiders have lacked in past seasons.

The Raiders are not the only ones interested in Finley. The New England Patriots have already brought him in for a visit. They need receiving depth as well especially with the questionable health of Rob Gronkowski. The Pittsburgh Steelers have brought him in for a visit. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger made note that he wished the Steelers had drafted a top receiving target so adding Finley would help in the effort. The Green Bay Packers are also keeping the door open for his return. Finley's decision could come down to money and the Raiders can offer him the best contract.
