The LA Kings and NY Rangers are playing game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals in the NHL playoffs on Wednesday night and the matchup is live from Staples Center at 8 pm ET from NBC on TV and the NBC Sports Live extra website and it could be the final game of the series and if Los Angeles wins in LA they would wi nthe series 4-1 with a win.
The Rangers have played well enough through three games to have at least one win, but hockey can be a cruel game that way and they are down 3-0. The team played tough in the first two games and led the entire time in LA apart from overtime and those were the only true moments that counted and that sent the team home 2-0 and now they are down three games and their odds of a comeback are long and nearly impossible. The likelihood of that comeback is rare enough on top of the fact that the Kings did it to the San Jose Sharks this season and that means the odds of it happening twice in one postseason means the Rangers are done.
Even though the Rangers will likely lose the series, it still takes four wins to take the Stanley Cup home and there have been plenty of times when New York has had to win a stretch of games in a row. They need to take things one game at a time and winning on Wednesday will at least give the team some self-respect and confidence and even though the odds are very slim, winning one game could lead to two and from there it could get interesting. The Rangers were shutout after Jonathan Quick had a great game and the team had their chances and just couldn't connect and the game did not feel right after Jeff Carter scored with less than a second left on the clock in the first period.
Ryan McDonagh has been a force on offense and defense for the Rangers during the playoffs and he has been the leader with 16 points and 12 assists, but the Kings have simply been too good. The Kings are like a zombie from a horror film and they simply will not go away no matter what happens and they have been seemingly able to score at will with Justin Williams and Marian Gaborik and now the Kings have the chance to finish things off against the Rangers. The Kings know that a team can come back from 3-0 down since they did it, but the chances of that happening are so slim, but they want to give the Rangers zero hope heading into the next game.
The Rangers played well enough over three games to earn a win, but sports are not always that fair and now LA is on their way to winning the Cup. The series turned on one terrible call and now Rangers fans are going to hold onto that for years, because the Rangers were dominating the series and ended up down 2-0 and now the Cup is likely gone.
