The Cleveland Browns are coming into the season with Brian Hoyer as the number 1 starter, but rookie Johnny Manziel will not go quietly and if he beats out Hoyer, he could end up starting for Mike Pettine and this comes as the Browns are facing the loss of Josh Gordon for a year and they could look at Andre Johnson or Mike Wallace as trade options to replace him before the 2014 schedule starts.
The Browns have Hoyer as the starter heading into camp, but Manziel will have his chances and he could win the job heading into the season. According to ESPN.com, Mike Pettine said that Manziel could find a way to win the starting job, but right now it belongs to Hoyer, who played well last season before getting injured. The Browns picked Manziel in the first round at pick number 22 and now he will be the future star of the franchise.
The team may lose Josh Gordon for the year to a suspension and that makes things tough for the Browns, but they also could look at Mike Wallace of Andre Johnson as trade options. The team signed Miles Austin and Earl Bennett to help with the loss and while trades could be tough at this time, it remains an option since they have the camp space for it.
The Browns are coming into the season after going 4-12 last year and they have a new head coach in Mike Pettine and Manziel has the chance to do something special for a franchise that has not had much success. The team was ranked 11th in passing yards per game last season and that was in large part due to the play of Josh Gordon and now the team is looking to continue that despite the fact that he could be done for the year. The team ranked 27th in rushing yards per game after trading away Trent Richardson and they signed Ben Tate in the offseason and that should help the rushing attack this year.
The team finished 2-4 in their division, but the Browns have some hope heading into next year and Brian Hoyer is coming back and he played well before getting injured last season. The team ditched former first round pick Brandon Weeden and now they will turn to Manziel for the future. Manziel has a tough road to be the starter, but he has competed before and can do it again and fans are hoping he can get it. The team was solid against pass and ranked eighth in passing yards allowed per game and they were also 18th in rushing yards allowed.
The team opens the season against the Steelers and then plays against the Saints and the Ravens at home after being on the road and those games will be tough. Manziel likely will not play in those, but if the team struggles, they have a bye week in Week 4 and that could be a chance for him to get in with Tennessee as the next game and then Jacksonville two weeks after that.
