The Chicago White Sox's matchup against the San Francisco Giants features two of the top pitchers in the major leagues. Tim Hudson has the lowest ERA in baseball at 1.81 while Chris Sale is inching his way up the ranks in the American League after missing a month of the season for injury. The Giants are currently looking to break a four-game losing streak to stay ahead in the NL West as they face off against Chicago.
Hudson may be preparing to turn 39, but the pitcher is showing no signs of aging. The veteran is 7-2 on the season and currently leading an excellent San Francisco starting rotation. He has not given up an earned run in three of his last four starts while being 3-0 with a 1.04 ERA during the stretch. He gave the Giants their only win in the team's last eight games. He gave up just one unearned run in seven innings against the NL-leading Washington Nationals. The team has since yielded 28 total runs while losing three in a row. However, Hudson struggles in Chicago. While playing at US Cellular Field, he has a 9.00 ERA in five starts, his worst of any ballpark.
The White Sox will send Sale to the mound who is 5-1 with a 1.97 ERA. Since he missed a good portion of the start of the season with a flexor muscle injury, he does not have enough innings to qualify for ERA leaders. However, if he did he would rank right behind Hudson and Johnny Cueto. Sale lost his last start after being outdueled by Max Scherzer. He gave up just one run while putting up 10 strikeouts in seven innings. At home he has been even better. In five starts he has given up three runs and nine hits in 32 innings of play.
