The Miami Heat and LeBron James need to reset after losing the finals and some free agent targets this summer include Kyle Lowry, Chandler Parsons, Luol Deng, Pau Gasol, Lance Stephenson and Zach Randolph and while Carmelo Anthony is a dream option in free agency, it is very unlikely he will be able to fit in with the Big 3 in South Beach this offseason without leaving some massive money on the table.
Miami lost to the Spurs in five games and looked tired and now they need to retool and add some more free agents to this mix. LeBron is looking like he will opt out but remain in Miami and that means the Big 3 likely will stay together, but they need some more help. On SportsCenter after the finals, Michael Wilbon and the NBA panel discussed some realistic options for Miami and two names that came up were Kyle Lowry and Chandler Parsons along with some of the other names mentioned above. Lowry is the most logical option since the team needs a point guard and Mario Chalmers' contract is up, while Parsons could be a great fit as well.
Chalmers had a terrible finals and that could mean he is on his way out and Miami could look at either Parsons or Lowry as the next piece of their Big 3 puzzle. Lowry is coming off of a great season with the Raptors and Pro Basketball Talk is reporting that Lowry is interested in Miami and that would require some pay cuts once again from the Miami Heat stars. Lowry helped lead the Raptors to their best season ever and he was basically playing like an All-Star this season and adding a legitimate point guard to Miami could be a huge for James and Dwyane Wade.
This season Wade missed 30 games and that helped in the playoffs, but he looked gassed by the finals and he could use some more support on the bench. Parsons could be an interesting option since he is a restricted free agent and while he wants to remain in Houston, the team may not be able to keep him. The team reportedly will decline the player option on Parsons and that would make him a restricted free agent and that puts them at risk of losing him since they may not be able to match any offer, which is what happened with the Knicks and Jeremy Lin.
Parsons could be a great fit with the team, while Lance Stephenson likely would not and he probably costs too much money as well. Gasol could be an option if he picks Miami over Los Angeles or New York, but that is a long shot and that means Miami will have to get creative once again. James wants championships and Miami likely is the best place for him to do that and the Big 3 has shown they are willing to be unselfish, but after winning two titles they may not want to leave that much money on the table. Anthony is a dream and reports have him giving up over $50 million if he signs with Miami and while he wants to win titles too, that is a ton of money to leave on the table if he opts to sign with the Heat over the Knicks.
