The Cleveland Cavaliers have the number 1 overall pick in the draft and one team that could be in the mix to trade for it is the Philadelphia 76ers, as they have two top 10 picks and the motivation to take Andrew Wiggins with the first selection and the Sixers could move one of those picks along with Thaddeus Young to get the deal done before the draft.
The Cavaliers won the draft lottery for the second straight season and they have the chance to sit tight and take who they think is best, or trade the pick in a package for more selections and possibly players. According to ESPN.com, no fewer than eight teams have called in about the number one pick and this comes as the Cavaliers feel they are in the sandbox for the Kevin Love trade with the Timberwolves. The deal for Love likely would require moving the number one pick and as of now the Cavaliers do not appear to be the favorites for Love, with the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics set up best right now.
The Cavaliers had less than a two percent chance to win the draft lottery this year and they beat out the Bucks, who had a 25 percent chance to do it. The Cavaliers have to make sure they do not mess up having the number one overall pick, as they could set the team back years with a wrong selection. Last year the team picked Anthony Bennett and while a player should not be called a bust yet after just one season, he was a bust last year overall with the way he played and he will have to now shed that moniker. The team took Kyrie Irving the time before that with the number one pick and obviously that has worked out, but he could end up leaving like LeBron did if the team doesn't turn around.
The Sixers reportedly want Wiggins badly and Pro Basketball Talk reports they could be willing to trade the number three overall pick and Young to get it done. The team has another pick in the top 10 after the Pelicans deal last season and that gives the team flexibility to make a move. The Sixers have been terrible and they see Wiggins as a foundational player if they can get him. ESPN.com reports that scouts see Embiid as the best choice at number one, followed by Wiggins and Jabari Parker.
The top part of the draft this year is very talented and the class overall is deeper than any of the past few drafts in recent years. Past the top three of Wiggins, Parker and Embiid are a number of great picks, including Nik Stauskas, Marcus Smart, Aaron Gordon, Kyle Anderson and Doug McDermott and those names all could be lottery selections. The Cavaliers have a major decision to make and if they trade with the Sixers, they are still guaranteed to get one of the top three players.
