LeBron James is set to enter free agency in 2014 and teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, NY Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers all feel that they have a chance to sign him and now the King has to weigh whether to stay with the Miami Heat and keep the Big 3 together or if he should move on to another franchise to try and win NBA championships.
James signed with the Miami Heat to win championships with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and now he has done that in two out of the past four years, making it to the finals each time. But according to Pro Basketball Talk, LeBron staying in Miami is no sure thing, as he is a bit miffed at the owner and the front office after the team did not spend as much this past offseason and cut corners, which could be one reason why the team was gassed in the NBA finals against the Spurs.
The report says that James is not happy about the way the team used the amnesty clause on Mike Miller and got rid of Joel Anthony without adding much after that and now the pressure is on the team to try and keep James. There are a ton of teams that could target James this offseason, but only a handful has the financial situation to sign him and even less are in a situation where LeBron could win titles right away. Cleveland has a dream of signing back James after he left a few years ago, but they have the number one overall pick in the draft and are closer to getting that again than winning NBA titles.
James is the most talked about and criticized athlete in the NBA and no matter what he decides, some people will say the same things they usually say about him and that has followed LeBron since he left Cleveland. James has said earlier in the season that he wants the Big 3 to stay together, but after four title runs and two championships, there has to be some changes and that could lead to the team making some moves in free agency.
James may have to take less money to get free agents, while the other two in the Big 3 could do the same and that would help the team get someone like Kyle Lowry or Luol Deng. Miami can't splurge on one big free agent because they may have three or four of those to deal with and James is obviously the centerpiece of it all. The Bulls will be tempting because of the Jordan connections, while Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose would make a nice big 3 with James. The Lakers and Knicks are in the mix because they are NY and LA, but the way those teams played last season likely means they are out of the running as well for James.
