Andre Johnson Trade Rumors: Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings Options For Houston Texans Deal?

Jun 19, 2014 04:06 PM EDT

The Houston Texans are dealing with Andre Johnson trade rumors heading into training camp and teams like the Oakland Raiders, Cleveland Browns, Minnesota Vikings, NY Jets could be interested in a deal for the Texans wideout as he remains away from camp workouts and other team activities.

Johnson is coming into the season after making 109 catches for 1,407 yards and five scores last season and he is the all-time leading wideout in team history. According to ESPN.com, Johnson has expressed is frustrations about the way the team has played after going 2-14 last season and he also said that he wants to go back to the playoffs and isn't into rebuilding. The Texans won two games to start the season and then lost 14 straight games and that weighed on the wideout last season.

Johnson is a very smart and durable player and he has not been injured much in his career and now he could be traded if he doesn't show up to mandatory camp. Johnson is a great player and the Texans likely do not want to trade him and will wait to see how things play out. The team is using Ryan Fitzpatrick as the starter heading into training camp and that came after Matt Schaub was traded to the Oakland Raiders. Schaub and Johnson were teammates for a long time and now he is in Oakland and the Raiders are one team that could afford Johnson.

Trades do not usually happen this late in the offseason, but it could be an option here depending on how things play out. Johnson is a beast and he would upgrade any offense. Johnson is 32 and looking to win and he is miffed at the way the Texans played following a couple years as Super Bowl contender and he wants to be back in the postseason. The Browns need a wideout to replace Johs Gordon and they have the cap money to make a move, while the Vikings could get crazy and make the trade as well to help Teddy Bridgewater in their offense. Adding Johnson would be huge for any team, but the Texans likely will try to keep him.

Johnson had a massive season despite playing with an undrafted rookie free agent and a less than stellar Schaub and now he could be on his way out as well. Last season he had 109 catches for over 1,400 yards and five scores and he holds nearly every record on offense for the team for a wideout. Johnson may not ask for a trade, but the team may have no choice if he doesn't come back into the fold. During his career Johnson has been a good soldier and has turned into one of the most productive, durable and consistent receivers in the game. Johnson has only missed time over the past three seasons due to an injury in 2011 and before that he missed only three games in another three seasons stretch.
