The Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners are playing on the MLB schedule and the matchup has the M's hosting the game at Safeco Field and the game starts up past 10:10 pm ET and comes as the Mariners have won five games in a row and they are matching up Clay Buchholz and Hisashi Iwakuma for the third game of this three game set.
The Mariners are six games over .500 for the first time in five years and Buchholz is coming back after he was injured and the Red Sox will try and avoid getting swept out of Seattle. The pitcher said that he is now 100 percent and he comes in looking to get back on track right away for himself and for his team. The Mariners are looking for their sixth straight win and they have scored 20 runs in the past two games and they have been playing better offensively now than earlier in the season. The team has one of the best bullpens in baseball and they are getting hot at the right time, with Kyle Seager hitting very well and he is raking it at Safeco, putting up 13 hits and two home runs with 14 RBIs during this current homestand and he hopes to continue that.
Brad Miller has been hitting better as of late and the Mariners are hitting over .300 and have scored over 80 runs during the winning streak and they have played themselves into wild card contention after losing eight games in a row during the early part of the season. Jake Peavy was beat in the last game and Iwakuma is getting back onto the mound now after a bad start and he is 5-3 with a 3.04 ERA this season and has been pitching nearly as good as Felix Hernandez since coming back from an injury.
The Mariners have the second best run differential in the American League after this little stretch and they are nearly back to .500 at home, while the Red Sox are 15-24 away this season. The Mariners host the Cleveland Indians on Friday and that will have Chris Young on the mound and on offense the team is 14th in runs and 24th in batting average and the pitching has been very good, ranking in the top five in ERA, WHIP and BAA this season. The Mariners have a mix of young talent and veterans and Robinson Cano has been a stabilizing force in the lineup.
