The NBA Draft 2014 results for the first round are in and the top picks went mostly as expected, with the Cleveland Cavaliers taking Andrew Wiggins number 1 overall, while Jabari Parker went to the Milwaukee Bucks and Joel Embid was selected by the Philadelphia 76ers with the third pick in the draft and some other notable first rounders include the Celtics taking Marcus Smart and the Lakers picking Julius Randle.

The Cavaliers held their cards close to the vest and went as expected by picking Wiggins, who was predicted to be the number one overall pick last year. The Cavaliers took fellow Canadian Anthony Bennett last year and now they have those two players after taking them number one and that left Parker for the Bucks. Parker and Wiggins were the presumptive top picks coming into the season and after Joel Embiid was injured, he slipped to number three after many thought he would be number one.

Aaron Gordon went to the Orlando Magic after being targeted by the Boston Celtics and he is one of the most athletic players in the draft. Dante Exum was taken by the Utah Jazz at number five and he is considered to be one of the best guards in the draft and he is just 18 years old from Australia. Marcus Smart would have been a lottery pick last season and now he goes to the Celtics at six and that is a very good pick for the team.

Julius Randle likely should have been a top five pick, but after some reports about his foot, he dropped to the Los Angeles Lakers and they were thrilled to make that pick. Some trades went down, including the Chicago Bulls acquiring Doug McDermott for Gary Harris with the Denver Nuggets and the Magic moved to get Elfrid Payton with the Sixers and the Kings picked Nik Stauskas to make it three Canadians in the top 10 picks.
