The Atlanta Braves have some momentum. They are fresh off a four-game sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies that saw their offense come alive for the first time in awhile. The Braves had been living off of one or two run games, but managed to find success at the plate against the National League East rivals. Now they are back in control of the division as they take on the New York Mets.
Atlanta is now a half game in front of the Washington Nationals after winning six of their last seven games. It is the first time they have been in sole possession of first place since June 20. However, getting home might cause some trouble in their potential of reaching a season-high five-game win streak. They have lost eight of their last 10 games at home, but facing the Mets should help that. New york has dropped four of their last five and could be without David Wright again.
He missed his third straight game after bruising his rotator cuff on his left shoulder. He is set to be re-evaluated and the Mets hope he can join the team Monday or Tuesday. Wright loves playing against Atlanta where he is 11 for 22 in his last five games. Evan Gattis is in the same boat after missing three games for back spasms.
The Braves will start Alex Wood who is looking to capitalize off recent success since returning from a stint in the minors. He gave up just three hits and a walk in seven innings against Houston. He is 6-6 with a 3.07 ERA on the season. He was called up to replace the injured Gavin Floyd.
The Mets will start Zack Wheeler who is struggling with consistency this season. After recording his first shutout in a three-hit performance against Miami, he gave up six runs and six hits in just two innings to the Oakland Athletics. The Mets need him to step up against the Braves where he is 0-1 with a 5.37 ERA. Jason Heyward has enjoyed hitting against Wheeler this season, going 5 for 6 with a home run. However, Heyward is 0 for 14 in his last six games.
