The Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros are playing live on the MLB schedule on Wednesday and the series finale at 2 pm ET from Minute Maid Park has the M's looking to continue their offensive explosion, as they have been killing the ball lately with Robinson Cano and Kyle Seager and they are in wild card position and will try and finish off the sweep of the Astros on the road.
The Mariners had a six run inning in the game on Tuesday and they have been mashing the ball as of late, racking up a season high 18 hits and 13 runs in the matchup to support Hisashi Iwakuma and now they will have Chris Young on the mound. The team is in wild card contention and is playing better than most imagined and they are eight games over .500 and that is eight games better than the Yankees, so for Robinson Cano, at least for the moment, has the last laugh, but baseball is a long season.
The Mariners have not had a winning season since 2009 and have not been to the playoffs in over a decade and now they are starting to get fans to believe in this team and they have the strength to make it. The team has a fantastic rotation anchored by Felix Hernandez and now that they have added Taijuan Walker to the mix, the team may have the best 1 through 5 starting rotation in baseball. The team is getting back another young stud soon in James Paxton and Roenis Elias has been very good at times as well and the team is hitting at the right time and young star James Jones has been electrifying on the base paths.
Jones had three steals and four hits against Houston, while Seager continued his monster tear with another home run and an RBI double. The Mariners had six hits in a row to score those six runs and all came with two outs and included five doubles and Robinson Cano said that he feels this team is hitting its stride and the eight game losing streak from earlier in the year is now a distant memory. The team is in wild card position and they now are in the division race at just 5.5 games back of the A's.
The team now is looking to continue things going as they try and sweep the Astros and Young have been a revelation so far, filling in when the team needs him and he has a 2-0 record with a 1.00 ERA in his last three games and the bullpen has been fantastic as well. Fernando Rodney is one of the leaders in saves and the team has the best bullpen ERA in the AL. This team is much better than the 2009 team that finished over .500 and they now are eight games over for the first time in years and they will try and keep that going against the Astros, although they have gained nothing on the Angels, who have also been 8-2 over the last 10 games.
