The Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals are playing live on the MLB schedule at Nationals Park on July 4 for Independence Day at 11:05 am ET and the Cubbies are coming into the game after a sweep of the Red Sox in Boston and Jason Hammel will be on the mound for the full day of baseball on the American holiday.
The Cubs have now won six of the last seven on the road and Starlin Castro has been hitting very well and right now the team is rolling a bit and while they are in the bottom of the NL central they are showing some signs of improvement. Hammel has been solid for the team all season and while he has been mentioned in trade rumors, he has not missed a beat, putting up a 2.98 ERA and a 7-5 record and now he is looking to beat the Nats on July 4.
The Cubs come into the game after winning big against the Red Sox and that was their first sweep there in nearly 100 years and they are getting Jeff Samardzija on the mound on Saturday against Gio Gonzalez. The Nationals come into the game after winning against the Colorado Rockies and now the teams matchup.
