The NY Yankees and Cleveland Indians are playing live on the MLB schedule for Monday Night Baseball from Progressive Field on ESPN at 7 pm ET and the matchup has a live stream from WatchESPN and has Justin Masterson taking on Shane Greene for the Yanks after their news about CC Sabathia and now Brian Cashman may have to pull out a trade to help save the season.
The Yankees missed out on the Jeff Samardzija trade and they ended up with Brandon McCarthy instead and while that is not the greatest deal in the world, it's an upgrade over Vidal Nuno. The Yankees have been dealing with a ton of injuries and Sabathia may not be back this year or ever with his knee issues and now the Yankees may have a future where he is no longer relied on. Michael Pineda and Ivan Nova have also been injured this season and the team is hoping that McCarthy can help solidify things up for the team.
Derek Jeter is playing his final series in Cleveland and he has been playing so-so over the past couple weeks and he is heading into his last All-Star game as well. The game is next week in Minnesota and the Yankees are leaving there after winning the series over the weekend and the Yanks are trying to stay above .500 as well, as they are in the playoff mix right now at 44-43, but they can't have a bad slump into the All-Star break. Greene comes in as a 25 year old after being a draft pick in 2009 and the team is hoping they can get lightning in a bottle.
Jeter along with Ichiro Suzuki has solid numbers against Masterson and he has been having a down season and this is a chance to shell him. Masterson has pitched well against the Yankees in the past and those matchups could help decide the game. The Indians have dipped under .500 and the Yankees were able to hang on after going up 9-0 on the Twins to win 9-7 and now they are trying to get this game before Masahiro Tanaka pitches on Tuesday against Trevor Bauer.
The Yankees got a win from Hiroki Kuroda in that game and now the team comes in at 19th in the league in runs scored and 15th in batting average. The offense has been terrible at times and they need to wake up in the second half of the season, including Brian McCann, while Jacoby Ellsbury is having a fine year and has been the MVP for the team. The pitching has been up and down and the team comes into things with an ERA just under 4.00, while the quality starts are at 23rd and they are chasing the AL East leading Orioles and Blue Jays as well as the second wild card with the Seattle Mariners.
