The 2014 All-Star break is in a week and the MLB Standings in the AL and NL have division leaders in the Detroit Tigers, Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, LA Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers, while the wild card leaders in the American League are the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners and in the National League the San Francisco Giants and Washington Nationals have the best records for those spots.
The AL East is still up for grabs with the Baltimore Orioles in first place and they are leading the Toronto Blue Jays by two games and the Yankees by a few. The Tigers are in first place in the AL Central by four games over the Kansas City Royals, while the Cleveland Indians are six games back. The AL WEst has the Oakland Athletics in first place by 3.5 games over the Angels and they are the likely division winners, while the Angels and Mariners are in the wild card spots.
The NL East has the Atlanta Braves in first place by a half game over the Washington Nationals and they are six up on the Marlins and it looks like those two teams will be battling for the division title. The Milwaukee Brewers have the biggest lead in the NL Central, as they are up over four games on the Pirates and five games over the St. Louis Cardinals. The LA Dodgers are the current leaders in the NL West, while the San Francisco Giants are next ahead of the San Diego Padres by a wide margin and that looks to be a two horse race.
The American League wild card has a number of teams still in contention, including the Toronto Blue Jays and Kansas City Royals, as well as the NY Yankees. The Angels are firmly in first place in the wild card race and right now the Seattle Mariners have a two game lead over Toronto for the second wild card spot and they have been one of the most surprising teams in baseball. The Mariners lost over 90 games last season and after signing Robinson Cano they are in contention in the AL with a 48-40 record and that is as many wins as the Orioles and the Tigers leading the east and central divisions.
The National League wild card has been a dog fight between whoever is second in the NL West with the Dodgers and Giants, along with the Washington Nationals in the second spot. The Pirates are in the mix at 1.5 games back, while the Cardinals and Reds are next ahead of the Miami Marlins.
