MLB All-Star Game 2014 Schedule: Start Time and TV Channel For Midsummer Classic

Jul 08, 2014 02:19 PM EDT

The MLB All-Star game is live on Tuesday night and the schedule for the game has FOX handling the TV coverage, while the Home Run Derby kicks things off on Monday, July 14 before the Midsummer Classic game at Target Field in Minnesota on Tuesday, July 15 and the game starts up at 8 pm ET and will also be broadcast online with a live stream as the AL and NL starters battle for World Series home field advantage.

The rosters for the AL and NL were released this past week and the Orioles have three starters in the American League, while the top vote getter was Jose Bautista. The Toronto Blue Jays also had Edwin Encarnacion on the team, but he is injured and was replaced by Kyle Seager, who was considered to be the biggest snub on the AL side. Seager joins Mariners teammates Felix Hernandez and Robinson Cano and this is the first time the team has had three players on the All-Star roster in a decade.

The game on July 15 will be the last All-Star game for Derek Jeter, who was voted in as the shortstop for the AL side. The game was in New York last year and now shifts to Minnesota and some of the other players into the game include Adam Jones, Nelson Cruz and Josh Donaldson. The NL side has names like Andrew McCutchen was well as Paul Goldschmidt, Chase Utley and Yasiel Puig, while Cruz was named the DH starter for the AL.

The home run derby is always fun, but this year it will be without some star power, as Miguel Cabrera and Mike Trout have taken themselves out of the running. Bautista is the AL captain and he had options to pick from, but Trout and Cabrera will not be there. Cabrera said that he wants to concentrate on his game while Trout declined to be considered  after citing the same reasons, as the two are battling once again for MVP consideration after Cabrera won out over the past two years.

Trout and Cabrera said they didn't want to "mess" with their swings, which is what some players say happens after the derby. Josh Hamilton had that issue before and now names like Giancarlo Stanton and Yoenis Cespedes could be in the mix for Bautista and Troy Tulowitzki, who leads the NL side. Last year Stanton was injured, while Cespedes was the winner last year. Cabrera previously did it back in 2006 and 2010 for the decry.
