Toronto Raptors took the first big step in the hunt for free agent point guard by making the veteran a massive offer.
The Raptors front office met Nash in Manhattan on Sunday and put a three-year deal believed to be worth around $36 million, according to ESPN.
Nash, who has spent the last eight seasons with Phoenix Suns, has repeatedly said he is open to any move and with Toronto offering the most money; they have gone up as serious contenders for the 38-year-old's signature.
Along with the Raptors, the New York Knicks, Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets are also vying for the point guard, with Phoenix also trying to persuade him to stay. The Suns are reportedly ready to offer a two-year deal worth nearly $10 million a year.
The Knicks representatives also met with Nash on Sunday, but reportedly only offered $3-5 million per season and the upper limit only if they can come to a sign and trade agreement with the Suns, according to the Toronto Sun.
The Nets are scheduled to meet Nash on Monday with the Brooklyn franchise capable of coming close to matching Raptors' offer. That is, however, likely only if Deron Williams leaves for his hometown Dallas and joins up with the Mavs.
The Mavericks are ready to give Nash a one-year deal or a two-year contract with lesser money.
Nash, who is also the general manager of the Canadian men's basketball team, recently said he would find playing in New York, where he stays during the off season, interesting while revealing he could see himself playing for another three years easily.
