Jul 15, 2014 03:33 PM EDT

Xavi Hernandez, a target for Manchester United and other Premier League clubs, is likely signing a deal with New York City Football Club in Major League Soccer in the United States, joining David Villa and Frank Lampard with the franchise, according to reports from the Guardian and Pro Soccer Talk.

Xavi is 34 years old and is coming off of a long and sustained run with Spain that saw the team win the World Cup in 2010 and he played last season with Barcelona. Hernandez joins David Villa with the franchise and Villa will be loaned out and will play in Australia while the team is getting ready to start playing games in 2015. Hernandez is the next high profile signing for the team and he comes in after scoring 13 goals in his career with Spain and he has scored four times in nearly 50 appearances for Barca in his career.

While Hernandez is over the hill age wise, he will be a draw along with Villa for soccer fans in America and the NYC area. World Cup fever took over the US with the national team playing so well and now NYCFC is hoping these big names can bring people out of Yankee Stadium for games. Lampard has not been officially announced, but all signs and reports point to him signing in New York with the team and leaving Chelsea. He had eight goals in 40 games for the team and he has been consistent throughout his career and has also played for England in the World Cup.

According to MLS.com, Villa will play at Melbourne City FC while the team prepares to join the MLS and Xavi could also be loaned out if he signs soon too. Villa was the first player to sign with the franchise.
