The British Open Championship 2014 is live from Royal Liverpool on Friday for the second round on ESPN and WatchESPN and it has Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy teeing off in the afternoon session local time and in the morning on the east as the PGA golf major continues.
Woods and McIlroy each got off to good starts and it was McIlroy leading the way after the first round of the tournament at six under. Woods played well in his comeback from surgery, as he had only two rounds before playing on Thursday and missed the cut in the Quicken Loans and now he is shaping up at three under. Woods started off with two bogeys before recovering with a three under and he was clean on the back end and said he felt good and had no pain stemming from his surgery.
McIlroy started fast with a six under and that was no surprise, as he has opened under 70 multiple times on tour this year. While McIlroy had the lead heading into the day, he knows the second round has been his bug this season, as he is over par overall in those frames and his British chances may hinge on how he plays. McIlroy has won this year while Woods has not and that is the opposite of what happened last year, with Tiger taking back the number one ranking.
McIlroy did not have any bogeys and he is looking to stay in good position, while Phil Mickelson is one over to start as he comes in after winning the British last year. Mickelson is one under for the second and now Woods and McIlroy are getting ready to tee off and they both are looking to stay in the mix, as McIlroy has a nice set of player's right behind him and Woods is one of the names in the top 10.
Woods said that he was happy with the way he played and now he has the chance to continue things are coming in under 70 and he put up a 69 and he is looking to change things up based on his past couple years at the British Open. Woods has played much better in the first round than the second and he has a worse total score over that time leading into the third round, as he is collectively even and in the fourth he is five over at the Open.
Woods played at Congressional and struggled after his injuries and now he is looking to keep things going, as he said he feels healthy and ready to play well. Woods and McIlroy have not had the chance to battle much and this is a chance for the two to get things going ahead of the weekend. Mickelson is looking to win two in a row and he has the chance to stay in contention after an up and down day with a nice round here.
