Philadelphia 76ers Rumors: Michael Carter-Williams Trade With Jason Richardson, Thaddeus Young After Joel Embiid Drafted?

The Philadelphia 76ers are years away from contending for a title and now the team may look at trades this upcoming season, as a trade with Michael Carter-Williams could be an option along with Jason Richardson, Thaddeus Young or Tony Wroten, as GM Sam Hinkie could try and move the PG while his value is as high as it is and that comes after the team selected Joel Embiid win the draft as the center of their rebuilding plan.

Carter-Williams looked like he was going to get traded after the Sixers made a draft pick of another point guard in the first round, but the team traded Elfrid Peyton to the Magic and that quelled things a bit. According to Pro Basketball Talk, the Sixers have been thinking about a potential Carter-Williams trade for a while and it has nothing to do with what they think of his talent, but they think he may have overachieved early and they could get higher value for him in a deal if there is a team that wants him bad enough. Carter-Williams won rookie of the year, but some have grumbled that his numbers were only as good as they were since he was the main option on a terrible team.

Last season the Sixers were one of the worst teams in basketball and they won just 19 games and that is a reason why they could consider making moves. Young is a top trade target after rumors came down last season between him and Spencer Hawes and there is a good chance that he could get traded this season. Jason Richardson is also a prime target and come the trade deadline, teams will be looking to veteran options and Richardson could be at the top of the list.

Either way, Hinkie has shown that he is willing to make trades to help the team gain draft picks and get better for the future and a move with Carter-Williams could be a part of that as well. The Sixers have tons of cap space and they were rumored as an option for the Knicks if they try to trade Amar'e Stoudemire or JR Smith, as they could absorb that money and be fine, but it likely would take Iman Shumpert to make a deal like that go through. According to ESPN.com, the team could consider an offer sheet for Eric Bledsoe, but the team realizes that the Suns have threatened to match any offer, so it likely is pointless right now.

The Sixers ranked 19th in the league in points per game and the team was ranked 30th in points allowed per game and now they are looking to build up the roster around young players like Embiid and Nerlens Noel. The Sixers felt that they could not pass up on Embiid, as many saw him as a first overall pick and he ended up slipping to number three based on his injury. Embiid and Nerlens Noel are the top players for the team. The Sixers had the third overall pick in the draft and now Hinkie is trying to build up the franchise after years of losing.
