The New York Yankees can simply not catch a break when it comes to injuries. The team has already lost four starting pitchers since the start of the season and now once again they have lost Mark Teixeira which will hurt their performance at the plate. After acquiring Chase Headley in a trade on Tuesday, the Yankees will face off against the Texans Rangers in hopes of moving up in the American League standings.

Teixeira continues to sit out due to injury as the Yankees look to win their fourth of five games. Facing the poor pitching rotation of the Rangers can certainly help the effort. Teixeira cannot seem to get past the injuries over the past two years. He has been slowed by a lat injury that is causing severe back spasms. This all comes after he played just 15 games last season thanks to a wrist injury. The injuries are not the worst part. When healthy, Teixeira has been hitless in his last 13 at-bats while going 2 for 20 with just one extra-base hit in six games.

The Yankees are facing a pitching rotation that has a combined 5.15 ERA from their starters. New York took advantage of it in game one, getting five hits against Miles Mikolas, but still did not do enough to win. The will face Nick Martinez on Tuesday who is 1-6 with a 5.10 ERA. He is coming off the disabled list. Since getting a win in May, he is 0-5 with a 8.10 ERA. Right now, pitching is causing Texas to sit in the bottom of the American League while the team has won just five of their last 29 games.

The Yankees will start Chase Whitley who has done well since getting inserted into the starting rotation for Masahiro Tanaka. He is 4-3 with a 5.10 ERA. He is currently competing to remain a permanent starter as the Yankees sort through trade options. However, he has yet to make it past the fifth inning in his last four starts, not helping his case.
