Anthony Davis Injured, Will Miss This Year's Summer Olympics

The No.1 overall draft pick of the New Orleans Hornets has suffered a sprained ankle Saturday and is almost surely to not be expected to compete for Team USA in this year's summer Olympics in London, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Davis, 19, severely sprained an ankle Saturday during a workout  in front of Team USA coach Mike Krzyzewski along with Los Angeles Clippers teammates Blake Griffin and Lamar Odom.

New Orleans Hornet organization has confirmed Davis' injury in a statement released Monday stating that the chances of him being healthy by the end of the week appear bleak and that his injury as of now is considered to be day to day.

With Davis scratched from Team USA's plans, he would join a lengthy list of players who've been ruled out by injury. That group includes Bulls point guard Derrick Rose (knee), Dwight Howard (back), Clippers point guard Chauncey Billups (Achilles), Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge (hip), Heat shooting guard Dwayne Wade (knee) and Miami power forward Chris Bosh (abdominal strain).

With Davis being sidelined USA Basketball officials remain confident that they will be covered no matter what competition they'll face this summer, mainly due to New York's Carmelo Anthony, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and Finals MVP LeBron James. Officials feel that each of them would be able to play the power forward position in the international game.

They also took into consideration that both Griffin and Odom are still vying for a roster spot and with New York's Tyson Chandler and Minnesota's Kevin Love still healthy they still have recognized big men to choose from to fill that combo power forward/center position.

The official 12-man USA roster, after a deadline extension from the U.S. Olympic Committee, will be announced after a July 7th practice.
