The NBA free agency period is getting down to the bargain bin and names like Jameer Nelson, Mo Williams, Ramon Sessions and Greg Oden remain on the market and those players are targets for a number of teams, including the LA Clippers, Dallas Mavericks, Atlanta Hawks and Sacramento Kings, with the Mavs targeting Nelson and meeting with him this week.
Nelson is one of the top players left on the market and while he is past his prime and now quite the player he once was he can still be a solid contributor on a winning team. According to Pro Basketball Talk, Nelson is meeting with the team and that comes after the Mavericks previously met with Mo Williams and now one of those players could be poised to join up. The Mavs lost Jose Calderon and Shane Larkin in the deal with the Knicks and Nelson could help mitigate that if he signs.
According to ESPN.com, the Mavericks met with Nelson and they also voided the deal they had with Rashard Lewis, as they found an injury in his knee. Pro Basketball Talk reports that Lewis needs knee surgery and that is why he was voided out. Last season Lewis played with the Miami Heat and it's kind of the same things that happened with Devin Harris, as he had a foot injury and had to re-work his deal last year. Devin Harris is back with the team and he has a four year deal from this offseason and he likely will be the starter and Raymond Felton is going to be his backup.
Nelson comes off a long career with the Magic and he was part of that team that made a run to the finals with Dwight Howard and he has playoff experience. Nelson could come in as a reserve option along with Harris and Felton and that gives the Mavericks some solid choices if Harris gets banged up or when they need to put out the b squad.
The Mavericks are looking to keep adding after signing Chandler Parsons to an offer sheet and keeping Dirk Nowitzki and now Jameer Nelson could be an option. The Celtics added Evan Turner and he was a potential target for the Minnesota Timberwolves, while Nelson was also a target for Boston. The Mavericks are looking to add depth and Williams also could be in the mix.
Ramon Sessions and Mo Williams are also on the market and those players could be options for teams like the Hawks and Celtics as they fill out their roster. Nelson had a solid season with the Magic and now he could sign with the Mavs.
