Liverpool and AS Roma are starting off their US friendly preseason tour with a match on Wednesday night from Fenway Park and the game is on NBC Sports Network and streaming from the NBCSN Live Extra website starting past 7 pm ET as the two teams play and the Reds will be looking to bounce back after losing to Roma last time the teams played at the stadium two years ago.
Liverpool has high expectations coming into the year after being one of the highest scoring teams in the EPL last season. The team returns Raheem Sterling for Brendan Rodgers, but Luis Suarez is gone and he is now with Barcelona afar his biting incident. The move was in play for a while, but things went quickly after the bite in the World cup and now Liverpool must find a way to make up for his production. Suarez was the top player in England last year and he led the EPL in scoring.
Liverpool nearly won the title for the first time in decades, but they were beaten out by Man City after they made a comeback and now the Reds will try and get it done this year. The team has been active on the transfer market and Rodgers is confident that the team will be near the top again. The Reds have the Champions League to look forward to this year after qualifying last season and they had a great year overall and now will try and match that along with top teams like Man City and Arsenal, as they look strong this year too.
Man City finished just two points over Liverpool and they ended up ahead of Chelsea by two and Arsenal by a handful heading into the summer. The goal differential for Man City was amazing and that is why they were so strong last year and they ended up with one more win over the Reds and that ended up being the difference in the standings. Both teams have had changes and after players like Luis Suarez and others move, names like Sterling and Daniel Sturridge will be elevated and they will have to step things up.
The EPL now has some new teams after relegation and promotions and Burnley is in there along with Leicester City and the Queens Park Rangers. Last season Arsenal was very strong and they were in the top four along with Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City and now those teams will be in the Champions League as well. Man City, Liverpool, Crystal Palace, Man United, Tottenham and Aston Villa are also playing exhibition games in America and this one in Fenway will be a major draw for fans, many of whom are clamoring for soccer after the World Cup.
