The PGA Tour leaderboard is live from the Canadian Open and a group of players are in the lead, while the European Tour is at the Russian Open golf tournament and the first round has David Horsey leading the way and now the second round will be underway at both tournaments, with the Canada Open picking up in Montreal on Friday after the first day of golf.
The Canadian Open is into the back part of the first round and Kyle Stanley held the lead with five under over a big group of players at four under, including Justin Hicks and Charlie Wi. The tournament has Nick Watney and Scott Brown also in the mix there at four back and some other names in the tournament on the leaderboard include Brandt Snedeker, Hunter Mahan as well as Ernie Els and Kevin Foley at the Royal Montreal GC Blue Course.
The European Tour has the M2M Russian Open from Tseleevo Golf & Polo Club and Horsey is in first place over Jack Wilson and a group with a six under score and that group behind is one back in the tournament. The tourneys come a week after the British Open and that saw Rory McIlroy go from wire to wire to win and now he has the chance for a career Grand Slam next year at the Masters at Augusta National. McIlroy is putting himself in position for Tiger Woods comparisons and golf is hoping for him to continue on this streak, as he could be the star they have been waiting for to take the Mantle from Woods.
McIlroy was great at Royal Liverpool and Woods was the exact opposite and McIlroy helped his father win thousands of dollars after they put a bet on him to win the Open Championship in 10 years. Woods now is looking to get back in shape and on track heading into the PGA Championships and he needs to get things together after his terrible run at the Open. Woods is not at full strength after dealing with surgery this year, but he was a mess at the Open and posted his worst score in a major.
Woods is not the player he once was and now it has been a long time since he has won a major and it could be a long wait until he does again. Woods started off well in the tournament but then faded and he ended up with a 75 in the fourth round and that put him in 69th place for the major at Royal Liverpool. Woods won five times on tour last season and three ahead of the Masters, but now he has to try and get things together just to finish the year on a good note.
