The Dodgers have won four games in a row and sending Zack Greinke to the mound could get them a fifth as they face off for their second game against the Atlanta Braves. Los Angeles is currently nursing a three-game lead in the National League West while the Braves sit tied with the Nationals for the lead in the East. Both teams are using their top pitchers in this matchup as Alex Wood needs to bounce back if he is going to keep pace.
The Dodgers best hitters took it to the Braves in the first game. Matt Kemp went 3 for 4 with two home runs while he is 9 for 15 during the win streak. Yasiel Puig went 4 for 5 as he continues to hit .526 against the Braves. Adrian Gonzalez got three hits while batting .400 over the past 10 games. Greinke will only add to Atlanta's troubles. He is 12-6 on the year with a 2.74 ERA. He is coming off a start where he pitched seven scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts against the San Francisco Giants. He has a 3.50 ERA against Atlanta, dominating them with seven stikeouts in their last meet up.
The Braves will send Wood to the mound after he was roughed up against the Padres, giving up five runs and 12 hits. It was one of the worst performances of his pitching career as he is 7-8 with a 3.44 ERA on the season. Wood has only faced the Dodgers hitters in relief appearances. He threw 2 scoreless innings last season while giving up four runs in two playoff appearances. Puig is 2 for 2 against him. The Braves need a solid pitching outing from Wood in order to keep pace against the Nationals who beat the Miami Marlins in their Wednesday afternoon game.
