Jake Peavy's debut with the San Francisco Giants did not go as well as he was hoping and now the pitcher is back to try and redeem himself as he faces off against the New York Mets' best arm. The Giants are looking to maintain their lead in the National League West while the Mets are simply just trying to win a game and the two pitchers will certainly make for an interesting matchup.
Peavy is supposed to be the missing piece to the Giants postseason puzzle as they hope the ace can continue his winning ways after being traded from the Boston Red Sox. The right-handed gave up four runs in six innings in his debut with the team. Catcher Buster Posey notes that he and the pitcher must work on chemistry and the winning will happen. In his last start against the Mets while with the Chicago White Sox, Peavy gave up one run and three hits.
The Mets are putting out Jacob deGrom who is turning out to get one of their best stars. He is 5-5 with a 2.79 ERA on the year. He won four straight starts with a 0.66 ERA during that time frame while striking out 30 along the way. He has not allowed a home run in his last nine starts and would like the become the first Mets rookie since Dillion Gee to win five straight starts. In his last outing, he gave up just four hits in over six innings for the win.
The concern for New York is the lack of hitting. They only put up two hits on Friday and have scored just 11 runs against the Giants in four seasons. Lucas Duda is the bring spot. He is batting .314 with six home runs and 13 RBI in his last 14 games.
